Recently put together To the Ends of the Earth, a web-doc for the United Church Observer! Or at least, I edited it, helped shaped the script, chose which pictures to use… anyhow it was a bit of a new experience for me, constructing a narrative entirely out of photographs. There’s an art to handling transitions, which pictures to add motion to, how fine a move to make, what speed, when to stop… All needed to make something look like a real doc or story instead of just a microsoft powerpoint. I’ve been used to being on the passengers seat for this kind of project as a producer, you know, saying, “change that” and “that picture stops a second too soon” and “a little to the left”; but it’s far far more difficult to actually get all those transitions that do work and make them hold together. So for all the editors whose patience I’ve tried in the past… I salute you! Thanks to @FlyontheWall_10 for hooking this up.
